What is applied behavioral analysis (ABA)?
ABA is an empirical science in which principles are based on learning and behavior. These principals are systematically applied to improve socially significant behavior and can be applied to reduce harmful behaviors that may interfere with learning. The use of evidence-based practice in treating individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related disabilities is considered best practice.
After a functional behavior analysis (FBA) is completed, a child’s inappropriate behaviors are identified, allowing the SOAR team to accurately teach replacement behaviors that result in equivalent reinforcement. Methodologies used during 1:1 and small group settings include:
- Positive Reinforcement
- Three Term Contingency (ABC)
- Preference Assessment
- Differential Reinforcement
- Naturalistic Teaching
- Discrete Trial Training
- Task Analysis
- Token Economy Systems
- And many more!
